About the Jerusalem Sewing Cooperative
The Jerusalem Sewing Cooperative (or JSC) is the first Family of Israel Fund vocational initiative. It was created to provide underprivileged young adults with the necessary equipment and education to start their own home-based small businesses.
Through her own cottage industry, each young woman helps to support her family with much-needed income in addition to the clothing and household linens she can produce for her home. By providing the means and the training, the JSC enables these young women to develop their abilities, expand their potential, and enjoy the tangible benefits.
The beauty of this approach is that we enable people in need to help themselves and provide for their families while simultaneously inspiring hope for the future. Further, with the proper tools and instruction, these young seamstresses begin to appreciate their own significant role amongst the Jewish people - graciously receiving from those with greater means, and through their own handiwork, providing for others with lesser means.
